Potala Palace: Originally constructed in the 7th century under the orders of the then king of Tibet, Songsten Gambo, it used to be the seat of the Tibetan government and residence of the Dalai Lama. The Potala Palace is 117 meters tall and 400 meters wide, and covers a total area of more than 130,000 square meters. It houses a wealth of Buddhist statues, treasures, murals, religious scriptures and paintings.
Jokhang Temple: Originally constructed by the Tibetan king Songtsan Gampo in 647 AD, the temple was built for his two brides, Princess Wencheng of the Chinese Tang Dynasty and a princess of Nepal. For most Tibetan pilgrimages, it is the most sacred and important temple in Tibet.
Barkhor Street: A quadrangle-shaped bustling bazaar located in the downtown area of the old Lhasa city. It is the oldest street in Lhasa and remains very traditional.
